FESCO puts navigation safety and environmental protection as priorities in its work

FESCO representatives took part in VIII International Seminar “Substandard Shipping – Solution Through Partnership. Marine Environment Safety Management”, 12-13 October 2005, St. Petersburg.

Representatives of International Sea Organization, Federal Ministries of Transportation of Russian Federation, Germany, Sweden, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, Marine Ports Authorities, Shipping companies of Russia, Finland, Denmark, Cyprus, Baltic Countries, Australia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, US Coast Guard took part in seminar work.

Discussions on seminar were mainly focused on the problems of water pollution preventing, atmospheric pollution caused by ships regulation, safe utilization of old vessels and construction of new fleet in accordance with all contemporary environmental protection standards.

The leading World classifying societies such as Det Norskе Veritas and Germanischer Lloyd took part in exchange of views on the subject of regional, national and international cooperation in the field of environmental safety at sea.

Special emphasis was put on oil spills as a result of discrepancy of vessels to technical standards making by international classification societies and ship-independent emergencies.

FESCO representative Vice President, Director of Navigation Safety Department Anatoliy Sidorenko noted that «In FESCO safety problems are in high priority, all FESCO vessels confirm Russian Maritime Register of Shipping demands and are certified as compliant to international pollution prevention standards».
