FESCO has begun Arctic navigation for 2 months earlier of the set date

FESCO Ro-Lo vessel “Vasiliy Golovnin” opened Arctic navigation in the middle of April.

Icebreaker «Vasiliy Golovnin» delivered 6000 tons of cargo to the village Khatyrka of Chukotsk autonomous okrug. The major part of cargo contains building materials and equipment for building of school complex and living cottages.

Unloading is conducted on the roadstead by the program of «self-unloading». To this end, the vessel is equipped with barges and tractors, that allow to conduct unloading on unequipped beach. It is expected that after operation completing in Khatyrka «Vasiliy Golovnin» will head for port Vladivostok for the next loading of cargo for the needs of CAO.

«Vasiliy Golovnin» is planned to complete 3 passages to Chukotsk till the end of June. Delivery of cargo to the regions with limited period of navigation will be conducted to the villages and portstations of Eastern Chukotka — Anadyr, Egvekinot, port Providenie.

Duration of navigation will total about 150 days. Returning of the vessel to Valdivostok is expected in the 2nd half of September — after completing of cargo delivery program to Chukotsk.

After calling to the base port «Vasiliy Golovnin» will leave for work in Antarctic by the program of polar station’s supply, where the vessel will work about till spring 2006.

Besides of this vessel, in navigation-2005 on chukotsk-arctic line about 12 FESCO ships will be involved, among which there are icebreakers, 3 palletized ships of type like «Botsman Moshkov» and 2 container ships of type like «Igor Ilyinsky».
